Support for Home Learning and Remote Learning

During full lockdown when there is restricted access to school education, or when some children are at home in self-isolation, there are plenty of things that they can do to help keep their education ticking over. Below is a list of ideas, advice and inspiration and a document with websites that could also be useful.

Reading

Daily reading has always been the key to unlocking children's imagination, encouraging curiosity of the world and developing vocabulary as well as giving an opportunity for shared experiences and discussion of themes and issues. There are many more ways to read than just picking up a book. Non-fiction reading can include magazines, comics, information books on Science, History or the natural world, to name a few. Away from traditional reading materials, we can also enjoy story through audiobooks, YouTube storytelling and internet websites on a huge range of topics. Instructions are also really great sources for giving children a sense of purpose in their reading - perhaps follow a recipe or a method for building a model? Remind children that reading is everywhere for many purposes and can be enjoyed in different ways.

Writing

Below is a link to a fantastic free resource designed to inspire children's writing and ignite ideas. One picture. One teaching resource. Every day! Each picture has with it: Questions to discuss, story starters, 'sick' sentences to improve, a sentence challenge and a creative activity. Whilst there is a main picture which is visible on the home screen every day, you are able to click backwards and forwards through the pictures to choose one that grabs your child's attention. An easy to use and excellent website you could use with your children.

Maths

Each class also has their Maths leaflets to work on which can be found on the Class Page.

We have invested in Times Tables Rock Stars for all children. This is designed to be a fun and engaging way for children to practise their multiplication tables. Teachers will give children their log on details or ask the School Office.

Physical Education and Exercise

It is really important that children get the exercise they need both for their physical and mental well-being. Below are a list of websites with activities the children can do inside or in a garden if available.

Cosmic Yoga Cosmic Kids has lots of sessions for all ages and you can get a two-week free trial or find some of the sessions on YouTube for free.

The Body Coach, Joe Wicks, has some Kids Workout videos on YouTube: You Tube - The Body Coach, Joe Wicks

These are some of the Wake Up Shake Up dances the children have enjoyed recently:

Timetabling - giving some structure to the day is important for many children. Below is a suggested timetable to use if you wish. This is in no way compulsory but offered to support parents who may want to use them.
